The “Protectors of the Earth – Space for Change” school contest, organized by the German Space Agency at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), is entering its fourth round. The contest seeks creative ideas for protecting the Earth and the climate. In the competition, students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades select a climate zone and explore it using real Earth observation data.
The competition is ideal for use in classroom instruction, project weeks, or extracurricular clubs and can be incorporated across various subjects. The German Space Agency at DLR provides comprehensive supporting materials: digital e-learning modules as well as supplementary teaching materials with practical content. Teachers also have the opportunity to participate in a professional development workshop on using satellite images in the classroom. A digital Q&A session is offered to students for discussion and guidance.
The winning classes can look forward to an exciting day at the Klimahaus Bremerhaven, including a closing ceremony and awards presentation. The registration deadline for the competition is November 7, 2026. The project work will take place nationwide from November 2026 to March 2027.
